President's Message
Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya
It gives me great pleasure to share this message with the readers of the 4th edition of SLEN during this session. At the outset, I wish to congratulate the SLEN team for its continued commitment to improving both the frequency and quality of this publication. I also appreciate their dedicated efforts to enhance its publicity, ensuring that engineering knowledge reaches every corner of the country.
It is with great pride that I address you through this edition of SLEN for prestigious Dr. A. C. Visvalingam Award. This award was established by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), to honour the legacy of Dr. A. C. Visvalingam, whose outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and national development have left an enduring mark on Sri Lanka.
The establishment of this award reflects IESL’s continued commitment to recognizing excellence, innovation, leadership, and service among Sri Lankan engineers. Since its inception, this distinguished honour has been presented to three exceptional engineers whose professional journeys exemplify the highest standards of technical competence, integrity, and dedication to society.
IESL has a proud and long standing tradition of recognizing such dedicated engineers, not only through awards, but also through memorial lectures that commemorate the lives and contributions of distinguished personalities who shaped the engineering profession in Sri Lanka. Through these lectures, we pay tribute to pioneers such as Eng. R. H. Paul, Eng. Dr. Ray Wijewardene, Eng. (Prof.) E. O. E. Pereira, Eng. D. J. Wimalasurendra, Eng. (Dr.) A. N. S. Kulasinghe, and Eng. B. D. Rampala, whose vision, dedication, and achievements laid a strong foundation for the advancement of engineering in our nation. These platforms serve not only to honour their legacy, but also to inspire present and future generations of engineers.
The primary purpose of instituting the Dr. A. C. Visvalingam Award is to acknowledge and celebrate engineers who have made significant and sustained contributions to national development, technological advancement, and the betterment of society. As the apex professional body for engineers in Sri Lanka, IESL considers it a national responsibility to identify, recognize, and celebrate such excellence.
In this context, I warmly encourage senior engineers who have demonstrated exceptional professional achievements, leadership, and service to come forward and apply for this esteemed award. Your contributions deserve recognition at the highest level.
Let us continue to uphold the values of excellence, integrity, and service that define our profession, and work together to advance engineering for the sustainable development of Sri Lanka.
